Two Tone Gold

Metal Make Up

Pure gold contains 24 karats of gold which is too soft to withstand every day wear so for wedding bands we combine pure gold with other metals such as silver, copper or titanium for strength.

Color

For yellow gold the result is a strong, hard metal with a rich yellow color. Because the actual color of white gold is a light gray, this portion of your ring will be coated with a very thin layer of rhodium - another precious metal - to produce a brilliant white luster.

Durability

If you keep your two tone gold wedding band away from harsh chemicals you'll find that it will keep its color and luster for a lifetime because gold is naturally impervious to heat, moisture and oxygen.

Abrasions and scratches are bound to happen over the years and these can quickly and easily be buffed out by your local jewelry professional. Additionally, the rhodium on the white gold portion of your ring will eventually wear away so it should periodically be replated. This is a quick and easy process that can be handled by most any jeweler for around $50. The frequency with which you need to replate your ring will depend on your lifestyle. Most of our customers find they need to replate every three to six years.

14K vs. 18K

Both 14K and 18K gold are top quality alloys. 18K gold has a higher gold content than 14K - approximately 15% more - and therefore is considered a bit more luxurious. 18K gold is slightly softer than 14K so it's not recommended if you are active and will be hard on your ring. Some people prefer 18K gold for its richer, yellow gold color although it's extremely difficult to notice a color variance.
